The »Two-Country« Ball Game
Home Fächer Sport
One of the simplest and most intuitive ball games to imagine

An equal number of players, aged 8 and up, play indoors or outdoors.

Players form two equal teams, each taking one side of the field. Teams may not leave their own half (except to go to »prison«).
Teams play with one medium-sized leather or rubber ball, e.g., a soccer ball or a volley ball. (There is a more exciting variant of the game in which two or more balls, also of a different type and size than soccer or volley balls, may be used.)

What the game is about The object of the game is for each team to eliminate the other by throwing the ball at opponents, trying to hit players »volley« (that is to say, without allowing the ball to bounce before it touches an opponent). If a player is hit »volley«, he must go to »prison«, a field behind his opponents’ side. However, if a player catches a ball in mid-flight without allowing it to bounce, the player who threw it must go to his own team’s prison.

Players may get out of prison

Players in prison must stay there unless they manage to pick up a ball and hit one of their opponents, thus putting them out. If a prisoner puts out an opponent, that prisoner is freed and returns to his side of the playing field.

The function of the »scarecrow« … is yet to be explained here.
Game over! The game continues until one »country« is eliminated and all players are in prison. To make the game more exciting, not only may two or more balls be used but also gymnastics balls of considerable size and weight. This variant is strongly recommended for adolescents or grown-ups only.
